Drawing of S.Charles and his Queen

Drawing of a roof boss from beneath the tower of Winchester Cathedral, dated 1635 and showing S.Charles with his Queen, Henrietta Maria

The Society of King Charles the Martyr has produced a Liturgical Manual which can be used in services commemorating the Martyr. We are most happy to make a sample of this material available to be downloaded; click here or on the sidebar to the left. Full copies of the Liturgical Manual are available through our site’s shop.

This Liturgical Manual sample contains a full set of propers, lessons and hymns useful for those commemorating the Martyrdom of S.Charles. For an explanation of the meaning of this day see the events page.

The form here is the one used at the Society’s observance of the Feast of S.Charles kept at the Banqueting House, Whitehall. It is from the 1662 Prayer Book with additional material marked by an asterisk.

Hymns for the Feast are also included, including one whose lyrics were written by The Honourable Mrs. Ermengarda Greville-Nugent, Foundress of The Society of King Charles the Martyr.
